Reading

In Key stage 2 it is our ambition that all the pupils gain a love of reading. Books are matched to their phonic ability and the levels are followed to enable a consistent, progression. Some of our reading levels have additional texts to supplement them. We use ‘Phonics Books’, which is a series of books suitable for older pupils who are struggling with reading. The purpose of these is to fill the missing gaps in phonic skills and knowledge that are preventing the pupils from making progress and becoming fluent readers. These books are designed to appeal to older pupils who may have already experienced reading failure. They are exciting, age-appropriate stories and illustrations which invite the reader to join in an action-packed quest or mission. The texts have a reading practice page, vocabulary page to develop receptive and expressive language, reader friendly layout and special font designed for dyslexic readers.
