Nicky Hill has a BA (Hons) in Design. After 2 years of working for an international company within their design and buying department, and a further year travelling, Nicky began working with young people in 2003.
Nicky has worked in a range of schools across different areas of the country, teaching anything and everything creative. This has included art, textiles photography, and design. Nicky has consistently worked with young people with the aim of raising awareness about how creativity, in any form, can make you feel calm, confident and in control of your own feelings and emotions. This approach has helped many young people to develop their self-esteem and to discover talents that they didn’t know they had. Nicky has taught from KS2 to A-Level, delivering a range of courses, including vocational qualifications.
Nicky actively encourages young people to make mistakes. Experimenting and then refining what you make is how creativity and personal outcomes are reached. She also strives to make projects relevant and contemporary in order to prepare her students for the visual and fast moving world that we live in today. Her positivity and encouragement have helped many young people to realise that school can be calm and quiet, but also fun and messy… always messy!
Nicky prides herself on being an adult that young people go to if they need extra support or perhaps just a chat. She has also been a tutor for many years and has a specialist level 4 qualification in teaching students who have dyslexia and co-occurring difficulties.
Nicky enjoys being outside with her 2 boys, especially at the beach.
