Caroline Cook, Headteacher
Caroline has over 20 years experience in education, 18 of those at middle leader level in both the curriculum and pastoral systems. Caroline joined Shapwick School in 2017 and prior to this was in an Associate Leadership post in a mainstream school. She has been commended by OFSTED on more than one occasion for her strategic vision and leadership of large science departments containing over 20 members of staff. Caroline left mainstream education to pursue the desire to work in specialist education, since then completing specialist qualifications in this area.
Caroline believes that the pastoral duty within a school underpins everything. Her very first position of responsibility was as an Assistant Head of Year and she initially thought that she would move through the pastoral system. The scientist in her and her innate ability to be solution focused drew her to data, timetabling and curriculum. Caroline loves working in specialist education, partly as it has allowed her to do both in equal measure.
As a leader Caroline has high aspirations and is passionate about the education of others in all aspects. This could range from developing the school curriculum, working with outside agencies to increase the support for students and ensure the sustainability of the school to the social and moral wellbeing of staff and students alike. She believes very strongly in self-reflection and has a desire to continually improve. She is consistently striving to move forward, be it to facilitate a whole school strategic vision, deliver outstanding lessons or high quality remote tutoring sessions.
